About The Pastime Club
About the Pastime Club
The Pastime Club is volunteer organization, with a proud history of serving Mendham and surrounding communities since 1915. The club’s primary purposes are to promote organized youth athletics and to enhance the welfare and interest of our community. We are also a men's social and fraternal club, and require all members to treat each other with respect and dignity.
Volunteering & Community Service
The Pastime Club and its members serve our communities in many ways. Many individual members are actively involved in coaching or administration of youth sports programs like Little League and the Twin Boro Bears; all Club members are encouraged to show their support by volunteering to help within programs like these. The Club shows its support by donating a considerable amount of funds to athletic programs in the Mendham area each year.
The Club generates revenues for itself and for donation almost entirely through our annual Labor Day Carnival and the 50/50 Raffle. These activities require a tremendous amount of manpower, and we rely almost entirely on member participation to meet these needs. Outside volunteers are of course always welcome and appreciated.
Every Pastime Club member is expected to donate his time and effort to help the Club.
Social Activities
There are many organized social events for the Club. The Club hosts everything from an annual New Year’s Eve party to an annual golf outing. There is also a weekly Happy Hour each Friday from 4pm to 7pm with snacks and discounted drink prices. The Entertainment Committee organizes Club events which are announced at monthly General Membership Meetings and emailed out to the membership. In keeping with the Club's spirit of volunteerism, the Welfare Committee supports Club members in time of need.
Our Members
There are currently about 240 members of the Club, from all walks of life. Most members live in or around Mendham, but there are roughly 35 members who live outside the area or out-of-state. Some 50 members are “Life” members; because of past contributions to the Club, these members hold special standing and are not required to pay annual dues or work a Labor Day shift (although many do anyway).
Many Pastime Club members have served their country in the Armed Forces, and the Club honors their service by maintaining a permanent display of photos of past and present members in the Game Room. As mentioned earlier, most members have participated in supporting youth athletics (although not a requirement for membership), and many current members also serve in other local clubs and civic organizations.
